Alistair McNarry is a consultant anaesthetist in Edinburgh with an interest in anaesthesia for head and neck surgery. Alongside this he is committed to improving safe airway practice whether that’s in relation to videolaryngoscopy, apnoeic oxygenation techniques (THRIVE etc), jet ventilation or flexible bronchoscopic intubation.

He has contributed to over 50 publications and book chapters (including three sets of DAS Guidelines) and is an associate editor for the European Journal of Anaesthesia. He is the project lead for the UKs eFONA Registry which stemmed from his role as the inaugural UK Airway Leads Network coordinator. The Airway Leads Network aims to promote safety in all aspects of airway care and is a model that has been replicated in several countries including Ireland, New Zealand and Australia.

He has organised the abstract competitions for several DAS meetings and coordinated the abstract presentations at both WAMMI and II in 2015 and 2019.

He organises and regularly teaches on Airway Workshops for the Royal College of Anaesthetists and is co-director of their popular Train the Airway Trainer Course. In addition, he has delivered airway workshops for DAS, the Intensive Care Society and the Association of Anaesthetists and been involved in airway workshops in Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, Ireland and the USA.

Having delivered online education to 47,000 delegates of the International Airway Management Society, he was delighted to receive their Education Award in May 2021

He trained in anaesthesia in the Scotland and Australia and has particular interest in anaesthesia for Head and Neck surgery, advanced airway management and paediatric anaesthesia.

Barry is past Honorary Secretary and President of DAS and founder of the Scottish Airway Group. He is currently chairing a DAS working group developing guidance on the Ethics of Airway Management.

Barry has published on airway management and speaks and teaches on the airway around the world.

However, his real passion involves two wheels.

David Vaughan is a consultant anaesthetist at Northwick Park and St Marks Hospitals in Middlesex. He qualified and trained in London and was appointed as a consultant to lead the head and neck anaesthesia service.

His research and teaching interests are videolaryngoscopy, complex and awake airway management and the obstetric airway. He is an active member of DAS with whom he was an author on the awake intubation guidelines and acts regularly as an advanced airway skills trainer for DAS, the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Anaesthetists.

He is a lifelong Crystal Palace fan and views their continuing Premiership status with deep suspicion. He spends his spare time watching rugby, walking, playing tennis badly, going to the theatre and wishing there was more time in life to do these things. His wife is a remarkably tolerant woman.

Ellen O'Sullivan trained in anaesthesiology and intensive care in UK and USA and is now a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at St James’s Hospital Dublin, Ireland affiliated to Trinity College Dublin. She specializes in airway management and is Director of the Fellowship in Advanced Airway Management and Simulation.

She is Past President of the Difficult Airway Society and was appointed DAS Professor of Anaesthesia & Airway Management.

Prof O’Sullivan is Past President of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland and is now Airway Lead Advisor to the College & runs the CAI national airway training. She has a substantial portfolio of clinically relevant research and has co-authored more than 140 scientific papers (H-Index 22), books, website modules etc Clinically she has developed a worldwide reputation in airway management and has lectured and taught workshops internationally. She was a member of the ASA Task Force on Management of the Difficult Airway and also sits on the Project for Universal Airway Guidelines Group (PUMA) guideline group. She is an Executive Director of WAAM (World Alliance for Airway Management) and co-chaired the World Airway Meeting, WAMM1, in Dublin 2015 and WAMM2 in Amsterdam 2019. A particular interest of Prof O’ Sullivan’s is Global Anaesthesia and supporting education and training in low & middle income countries. This has led to her involvement in a number of projects in Malawi & Uganda including the Global Capnography Project (GCAP)

Dr Nuala Lucas is a Consultant Anaesthetist at London North West University Healthcare Trust. Her major interest is obstetric anaesthesia. She is the President-elect of the Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association and chairs the Education Subcommittee. Nuala is the anaesthetic co-lead for the UK Confidential Maternal Death Enquiries (MBRRACE-UK). She is a senior editor for the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia. Her research interests include airway management in obstetric anaesthesia and complications of obstetric anaesthesia. In 2020 she was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to anaesthesia during the COVID19 pandemic. In 2021 she was awarded the Featherstone Professorship by the Association of Anaesthetists

Introduced mandatory POCECHO and US with high standards and goals training staff on POCUS and Echocardiography by running daily point of care sonographic rounds concentrating on dynamics of organs and circulatory interactions emphasising on applied physiology

Established closed ICUs system in Farwaniyah and Jahra hospitals during the COVID pandemic. Each hospital had between 40 to 60 ICU beds. This resulted better survivals and less morbidity

Dr. Ibrahim Hadi had completed his undergraduate medical studies in Dublin from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ireland and completed residency-training program in Anesthesia at the University of Western Ontario (UWO) in Canada. Dr. Hadi joined and completed a two-year subspecialty Fellowship program in interventional chronic pain management from the UWO. He had obtained board certification from Royal College of Physician and Surgeon of Canada in 2005.

Dr. Hadi was appointed as a chairman of Anesthesia & Intensive Care Department at Al-Farwaniya Hospital from 2008 – 2014. He also served as program director for the anesthesia residency training program, Kuwait Board in Anesthesia, between 2006 and 2012. Subsequently, he was appointed as Secretary General for Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization (KIMS) in Nov. 2012 to Feb 2020. Dr. Hadi initiated medical education transformation at KIMS, leading to international institutional accreditation, Can-MEDS outcome-based structured training programs and qualified professional in medicine and dentistry.

Dr. Hadi had established several initiatives with universities in Canada to secure scholarship position for physician from Kuwait in Canadian-based training programs.

Dr. Hadi was a member of Board of Trustee of Dasman Diabetes Institute from 2015-2020 and a member of Research Ethical Review Board at the Ministry of Health from 2014-2020.

Education, Qualifications and Interest

Dr Al-Foudri graduated from Leeds medical School in 1998. She completed anaesthetic and intensive care training in South East Scotland School of anaethesia and Welsh School of Anaesthesia during which obtained the FCARCSI from Dublin in 2007. She also obtained CCT in anaesthesia from the RCOA/ UK in December 2011.

She has a great passion for medical education and particularly medical simulation. She established a number of training courses locally including ELSO endorsed ECMO comprehensive simulation course as well as organizing and running multiple training courses and workshops in the field of anaesthesia and critical care with particular focus on safety and quality of care.
